Our Story...

After 10 years of working in Salford’s inner-city The Angel Healthy Living centre have been selected to be part of the NHS’s ‘First Wave’ of Right to Request organizations! The Aim of Right to Request is to allow NHS staff to work with communities to develop responsive services that they have a role in governing at the same time as allowing health professional to work more entrepreneurially. The Angel was originally part of the ‘Healthy Living Centre’ programme of the late 1990’s funded by the Strategic Health Authorities ‘ Health Action Zone’ funding.

The Angel is an exciting social enterprise delivering public health outcomes in some of Salford’s most deprived communities. Set up as a community benefit company the joint venture between NHS staff and local people is delivering a vast array of opportunities for local people as part of its 3 year contract with NHS Salford, all assets and profits of the organisation will be reinvested back into the community to improve the lives of the people it serves.



New and innovative projects at the organisation include a healthy living prescription scheme offering patients with complex health need’s services ranging from Art to Pumpkins on Prescription! , Media City UK backed community learning centre encouraging local people to training in such things as film making, creative media and music. The Angel HLC limited has also brought back the Salford Flat Iron Market in an effort to stimulate local enterprise and build a local economy.



Run by skilled health professionals and local social entrepreneurs The Angel HLC is a community business for the 21st Century combining business acumen with a social conscience to tackle the challenges faced by local people in the current economic climate.
